First post...

I started a mad project with a Scimitar but due to my state of mind made no progress in two years so threw the lot away, only for it to dawn on me some time I should have kept it but hey...

Obviously I needed something to put in my garage so, what? Thoughts had been along the lines of classic Mini but (and saying this as someone who has had several including building myself an MG Metro turbo powered car); I am now fifty something and they are too small, bouncy and uncomfortable. Next I looked at MG BGT, but prices of parts were bonkers so it was back to fairly basic Beetle.

Had my eye on a few doing the rounds on ebay but the one I went for was on fb's marketplace. Originally on the market for £900, then reduced to £600, I haggled to £500 as it would need to be collected - not by me, but commercial outfit which worked out about £80 more expensive than me doing it, but saved me a 400 mile round trip and wear and tear on my car so...

Anyway, this is it

So there is a ton of work to do - there were no rear wings but given the state of the fronts, they would have been scrapped which is also what will happen to bonnet and boot (and probably the doors!)

Mother in law wasn't overly impressed :)

Here is a picture on the roof:

Which should give you an idea of what I am up against - without even looking into the rust!!!

This is after I spent the day sanding/prepping and priming

I have decided to start at the top and work my way down and fix the problems as I come to them - see that patch on rear part of rain channel - turned out worse than it looked - a inch long hole!

Was hoping to get further down before that kind of rubbish turned up

It's the Grill n Chill at the Hop Farm over the weekend so I shall go and look for inspiration (though I've been offered a Audi S6 for £500,so think mid engine V8/autobox atm.
